Welcome to MUNCH!!
MUNCH (Madisonians United for Nutrition for Children's Health) is a group of concerned Madisonians who are advocating for change in the Madison Metropolitan School District’s (MMSD) food service, and working to promote positive nutrition education and ideas to parents and students.
Did you know that you can have lunch at school with your child? You can either bring a lunch from home or have school lunch. Call your school's secretary the day before you want to visit and ask that a lunch be ordered for. It is a great and eye opening experience!
MUNCH is very excited to have a new logo. It was designed by local graphic designer and MMSD parent, Mary Buckland. If you would like to use the logo, email suzannes at gmail dot com and she can send you a copy that is appropriate for your purposed. Thank you so much Mary!!!
Munch was started in early 2009 by a group of parents at Franklin-Randall elementary but has quickly grown to include parents at many schools, teachers, administrators, nutritionists and university staff who all have an interest in improving children's health and education through nutrition. Our hope is to work with children, parents, teachers, principals and the district administrators to improve overall nutrition which includes meals provided by the district, snacks and lunches.
Examples of what we have done have include:
Working with Research, Education, Action and Policy on Food Group (REAP) to pilot a classroom snack program.
Working with district officials to rethink school food.
Contributing to a national blog on school food policy.
We look forward to hearing from you.
